Here’s the score!

Those that know me are aware I used to teach Taekwon-Do full time for six years under the tuteledge of Grand Master Peter Harkess from the UKTC in the North East of England before moving to the Wirral.

I have been a resident of Liverpool for three years now and I love the place, it’s amazing, I am also impressed with the local gyms, personal trainers and martial arts instructors serving the North West and I am privileged to work with some of the best of them.

I am concerned with the level of knife crime in the area and whilst I am confident in our police force and local authority to tackle this, I am also aware how it is impacting our community as a whole.

I do not feel there is a need for another Taekwondo school in the area as I am aware of some excellent ones within easy reach and online. There is however an imperative need to signpost where beginner students of all ages can access Taekwon-Do and learn the benefits of this scientific martial art for fitness and self defence.

Taekwon-Do, in addition to teaching fitness and self defence builds self confidence which so many of us need replenishing after the pandemic and the current state of the United Kingdom’s economy.

You will see more of me teaching taster sessions in the city educating beginners and parents as to the benefits of Taekwon-Do, in the meantime if you would like to find a local class then please either visit the the British Taekwon-Do Council website for a comprehensive list of members or the United Kingdom Taekwon-Do Council, the members of which I have been working with since 1991.

Wavertree Worked!

Yesterday I decided to take my 10kup to Wavertree Botanic Gardens to practice some Taekwon-Do, I have been using the park since August 2022 and have always received a welcome reception.

We started using the exercise equipment to begin with and it didn’t take long before kids started to ask who we were, the first two children asked if I was a sensei and the obvious answer was yes.

I asked if they would like to join in with the permission of their parents and instantly a class was formed. They didn’t stay long but within minutes more children approached us and we quickly became a class of eight or nine children with parents watching in amazement.

The lesson lasted longer than the usual hour and at the we were asked when we would be returning. I will be scheduling a couple of sessions per week with at least one of them at Wavertree Botanic Gardens, probably on a Saturday morning but more details will follow.

Can I recommend you subscribe to this blog to be kept up to date or you can email me on morlancarrtkd@gmail.com or phone/text 07873 565498.

Effective self defence when you need it!

Probably the most asked question I always here is, “What is Taekwon-Do”, as the majority of people either haven’t heard of it or maybe seen something at the Olympics.

Simply, Taekwon-Do was born on the 11th of April 1955 with it’s creator Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi and is therefore described as a modern martial art, more importantly it is the scientific use of the body for self defence, being scientific it is also easy to learn, teach and duplicate, and has been freely given by it’s founder without condition for everyone to practice and enjoy.

There are different versions of Taekwondo around, some are more sport orientated like the WTF for example, the original style of ITF Taekwon-Do is however far more lethal, there is the sport element and competitions however in it’s purest form it only takes one strike of the foot or hand to disable your adversary or attacker, similarly the purpose of blocking techniques are not only to deflect an attack but often can be used to smash the attacking tool.

May we remind you all that it is your human right from birth to be able to live in peace, to feel safe and have the freedom of choice to live your lives how you choose. We advise that you are all entitled to defend yourselves wherever you are and that includes gaining enough time to get away to safety if that is what is needed.

Taekwon-Do can help you defend yourselves very effectively, you do not need any equipment or weapons, and with training and practice you will be able to defend yourselves against one or more simultaneous attackers at the same time.

Today, when I want to emphasise how powerful Taekwon-Do is against an unprovoked attack I use mixed martial arts as an example, the majority of people would say MMA is an impressive sport and it is, interestingly a lot of Taekwon-Do seniors have found plenty of success there in competitions, what people generally are not aware of is that there are Taekwon-Do techniques that are so dangerous and effective that they are banned from MMA, that fact normally adds some clarity to the effectiveness of this martial art.

Anxiety Sucks!

I was speaking with a friend at a fitness training session yesterday and he reminded me how hard it can be to get out of bed in the morning, he struggles with anxiety and I assured him we all do at times and then I remembered a life hack I learnt recently and began to teach him.

We are all going through so much, and at times, it is understandable that we don’t want to move, we talk ourselves out of doing things, from simply getting up in the morning to doing something that is fun, challenging or life enhancing.

I cannot to begin to understand everything we are all going through, that is the point, the majority of people just do not get us, why would they, and in all honesty, I don’t really want them to.

I came across this Youtube video maybe by chance, maybe by divine guidance, and was compelled to watch it. It made so much sense and the advice works. Please take the time to watch it. Let me know what you think.
